Description

Jamie Oliver’s Naan Bread is a simple and delicious flatbread that pairs perfectly with curries, soups, or as a base for wraps. This recipe uses minimal ingredients and delivers soft, fluffy naan with a slightly charred finish.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Naan Bread:

  • 500g (4 cups) plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 300g (1 1/4 cups) plain yogurt
  • 100ml (1/2 cup) milk
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For Optional Toppings:

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Fresh coriander, chopped
  • Butter for brushing

Instructions

Step 1: Mix the dough

In a large bowl, combine the plain flour, baking powder, and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yogurt, milk, and olive oil. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Step 2: Knead the dough

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a clean tea towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Step 3: Divide and roll

Divide the dough into 6-8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then flatten and roll out into an oval or teardrop shape, about 1/2 cm thick.

Step 4: Cook the naan

Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Place a naan in the pan and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form and the bottom has golden spots. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes. Repeat with the remaining dough.

Step 5: Add toppings (optional)

Brush the naan with melted butter and sprinkle with minced garlic or chopped coriander while still warm.

Step 6: Serve

Serve the naan bread warm with your favorite curry, soup, or dip.
