Description

Jamie Oliver’s Crème Fraîche Lasagne is a variation of the classic lasagne, featuring a tangy and creamy sauce made with crème fraîche. This dish combines layers of pasta, meat sauce, and cheese for a comforting and flavorful meal.

For the Meat Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (400g) chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Crème Fraîche Sauce:

  • 2 cups crème fraîche
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For Assembly:

  • 12 lasagne sheets
  • 1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Meat Sauce

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef or lamb and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces with a spoon.
  2. Add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until thickened.

Step 2: Make the Crème Fraîche Sauce

  1. In a bowl, mix the crème fraîche with the grated Parmesan, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper. Stir until smooth and set aside.

Step 3: Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F).

Step 4: Assemble the Lasagne

  1. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of a greased baking dish.
  2. Place a layer of lasagne sheets over the sauce.
  3. Spread a layer of crème fraîche sauce over the pasta, followed by another layer of meat sauce. Repeat the layers, ending with a layer of crème fraîche sauce on top.
  4. Sprinkle the grated mozzarella evenly over the top.

Step 5: Bake the Lasagne

Cover the lasagne with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling.
