Description

Cheese Straws are a baked snack made from puff pastry twisted with cheese and seasonings. They are crispy, buttery, and full of cheesy goodness.

Ingredients

Scale
    • 1 sheet of ready-made puff pastry

    • 100g (3.5 oz) grated cheddar cheese

    • 50g (1.8 oz) grated Parmesan cheese

    • 1 teaspoon paprika or cayenne pepper (optional for spice)

    • 1 egg, beaten (for glazing)

    • A pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper

Optional Add-Ins:

    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or thyme for a herby flavor

    • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds for texture

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

    • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

    • Roll out the puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface.

Step 2: Add the Cheese and Seasoning

    • Sprinkle the grated cheddar, Parmesan, paprika, salt, and pepper evenly over the pastry. Gently press the cheese and seasonings into the pastry with a rolling pin.

Step 3: Fold and Cut the Pastry

    • Fold the pastry in half lengthwise to sandwich the cheese. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut the pastry into 1-inch wide strips.

Step 4: Twist the Strips

    • Take each strip and twist it a few times to create a spiral shape. Place the twisted strips on the prepared baking tray, leaving some space between each one.

Step 5: Glaze and Bake

    • Brush the strips with beaten egg for a golden finish. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.

Step 6: Cool and Serve

    • Let the cheese straws cool slightly on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy them warm or at room temperature.
