    • 1 medium red cabbage, shredded

    • 2 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

    • 1 large onion, thinly sliced

    • 3 tablespoons olive oil or butter

    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

    • 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar

    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

    • 1 teaspoon ground cloves or allspice

    • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

    • Shred the red cabbage, slice the onion, and prepare the apples.

Step 2: Sauté the Onions

    • Heat olive oil or butter in a large pot over medium heat.

    • Add the onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 3: Add the Cabbage and Apples

    • Stir in the shredded cabbage and apple slices, cooking for another 5 minutes until slightly softened.

Step 4: Season and Sweeten

    • Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, and cloves over the mixture. Stir to coat evenly.

Step 5: Add the Vinegar

    • Pour in the red wine vinegar and stir well. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 6: Simmer and Cook

    • Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 45-50 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and the flavors have melded.
