Description

Jamie Oliver’s Turkey Chili is a robust and comforting dish featuring ground turkey, kidney beans, and a mix of vegetables cooked in a rich tomato-based sauce with aromatic spices.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 500g (1 lb) ground turkey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 400g (14 oz) canned diced tomatoes
  • 400g (14 oz) canned kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 250ml (1 cup) chicken or vegetable stock
  • 1 teaspoon tomato paste
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Juice of 1 lime (optional)

For Toppings:

  • Chopped fresh coriander (cilantro)
  • Sliced avocado
  • Grated cheddar cheese
  • Dollop of sour cream
  • Tortilla chips

Instructions

Step 1: Sauté the Aromatics

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, and red bell pepper. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened and fragrant.

Step 2: Brown the Turkey

  • Add the ground turkey to the pot and cook for 5-7 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through.

Step 3: Add the Spices

  • Stir in the cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder, and oregano. Cook for 1-2 minutes to toast the spices and release their aroma.

Step 4: Simmer the Chili

  • Add the canned tomatoes, kidney beans, chicken or vegetable stock, and tomato paste. Stir well to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 5: Adjust Seasoning

  • Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt, black pepper, and lime juice if desired.

Step 6: Serve and Garnish

  • Ladle the chili into bowls and top with your favorite garnishes like coriander, avocado, cheddar cheese, sour cream, or tortilla chips. Serve hot.
