Scale
For the Pizza Dough:
-
- 500g (4 cups) strong bread flour
-
- 1 teaspoon salt
-
- 1 teaspoon sugar
-
- 7g (1 packet) instant yeast
-
- 325ml (1 1/3 cups) warm water
For the Toppings:
-
- 200g (3/4 cup) tomato passata or pizza sauce
-
- 150g (1 1/2 cups) grated mozzarella cheese
-
- 3–4 sausages, casings removed and crumbled
-
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
-
- 1 bell pepper, thinly sliced (any color)
-
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning
-
- Olive oil, for drizzling
-
- Optional: Fresh basil leaves or chili flakes for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
-
- In a large bowl, mix the bread flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Gradually add warm water, mixing until a dough forms.
-
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in an oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Preheat the Oven
-
- Preheat your oven to 240°C (475°F) or as high as it will go. If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
Step 3: Prepare the Sausage and Toppings
-
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the crumbled sausage until browned. Set aside.
-
- Slice the onion and bell pepper thinly for topping.
Step 4: Roll Out the Dough
-
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two portions. Roll each portion into a thin round or rectangle, depending on your preference.
Step 5: Assemble the Pizza
-
- Place the dough on a baking sheet or pizza peel lined with parchment paper. Spread a thin layer of tomato passata or pizza sauce over the base.
-
- Sprinkle-grated mozzarella evenly over the sauce, followed by the cooked sausage, sliced onion, and bell pepper. Sprinkle with dried oregano and drizzle with olive oil.
Step 6: Bake the Pizza
-
- Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto a hot pizza stone) and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
Step 7: Garnish and Serve
-
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with fresh basil leaves or a sprinkle of chili flakes if desired. Slice and serve hot.
