Jamie Oliver’s Homemade Baked Beans are a delicious, wholesome twist on the classic. Made with simple ingredients and packed with flavor, this recipe is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a side dish to your favorite meals.

Ingredients

Scale

    • 400g (14 oz) can of cannellini beans or haricot beans, drained and rinsed

    • 1 tablespoon olive oil

    • 1 onion, finely chopped

    • 2 garlic cloves, minced

    • 1 can (400g/14 oz) chopped tomatoes

    • 1 tablespoon tomato purée

    • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (use vegetarian if needed)

    • 1 teaspoon brown sugar or maple syrup

    • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard

    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

    • Optional: A pinch of chili flakes for heat

Instructions

Step 1: Sauté the Onion and Garlic

    • Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Step 2: Add the Tomatoes and Flavorings

    • Stir in the chopped tomatoes, tomato purée, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well.

Step 3: Simmer the Sauce

    • Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Step 4: Add the Beans

    • Stir in the drained and rinsed beans. Let them cook in the sauce for another 5-10 minutes, ensuring they are warmed through and coated in the sauce.

Step 5: Adjust Seasoning and Serve

    • Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt, pepper, or a touch of sugar if needed. Serve warm.
