Description
Jamie Oliver crumble is a baked dessert that features a layer of fruit on the bottom and a crisp, buttery topping made from flour, sugar, and oats. The oats in the topping give it an extra crunch and nuttiness, making it a delicious and satisfying contrast to the soft, juicy fruit filling.
Ingredients
For the Fruit Filling:
-
- 4 large apples (or any other fruit like pears, berries, or a mix), peeled, cored, and sliced
-
- 50g sugar (adjust to taste based on the sweetness of the fruit)
-
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
-
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
-
- 1 tablespoon plain flour (to thicken the fruit juices)
For the Oat Crumble Topping:
-
- 150g rolled oats
-
- 100g plain flour
-
- 100g cold unsalted butter, cubed
-
- 100g brown sugar
-
- A pinch of salt
-
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples (or chosen fruit) with the sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and flour. Make sure the fruit is well-coated. Spread the fruit mixture evenly in a baking dish.
In a separate bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Add the cold, cubed butter to the mixture. Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the dry ingredients until it forms a crumbly, sand-like texture with some larger chunks. Stir in the vanilla extract if using.
Sprinkle the oat crumble topping evenly over the fruit filling, making sure the fruit is well covered.
Place the assembled crumble in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling around the edges.
Once baked, remove the crumble from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, or a drizzle of custard.
