Description

Jamie Oliver’s Creamed Spinach is a rich and silky side dish made by combining wilted spinach with cream, butter, and seasonings. It’s a delicious way to add greens to your meal while indulging in a creamy treat.

Ingredients

Scale

    • 500g fresh spinach leaves (or 300g frozen spinach)

    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

    • 2 garlic cloves, minced

    • 1/2 cup heavy cream

    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

    • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Spinach:
If using fresh spinach, rinse and drain it thoroughly. Remove any tough stems. If using frozen spinach, thaw and squeeze out excess water.

Wilt the Spinach:
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the spinach and cook for 2-3 minutes until wilted (for fresh) or heated through (for frozen). Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Cook the Garlic:
In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Add the Cream:
Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a gentle simmer. Stir in the ground nutmeg, if using, for added warmth.

Combine Spinach and Cream:
Return the spinach to the skillet and stir well to coat it in the creamy sauce. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Season and Garnish:
Season with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese if desired, and serve warm.
