Ingredients
Scale
-
- 6–8 slices of stale bread (white, brioche, or sourdough)
-
- 2 ripe bananas, sliced
-
- 50g (1/4 cup) unsalted butter, softened
-
- 3 large eggs
-
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
-
- 2 cups whole milk
-
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
-
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
-
- 2 tablespoons raisins or chocolate chips (optional)
Optional Toppings:
-
- Powdered sugar for dusting
-
- Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
-
- A drizzle of caramel sauce
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
-
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a medium-sized baking dish with butter.
Step 2: Prepare the Bread
-
- Butter one side of each slice of bread. Cut each slice into triangles or halves.
Step 3: Arrange the Layers
-
- Layer the buttered bread slices in the baking dish, slightly overlapping them. Tuck in the banana slices between the bread layers. Add raisins or chocolate chips if desired.
Step 4: Make the Custard
-
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, milk, cream, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
Step 5: Pour the Custard
-
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread and bananas. Press down gently with a fork to ensure the bread absorbs the custard. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
Step 6: Bake the Pudding
-
- Place the dish in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
Step 7: Cool and Serve
-
- Allow the pudding to cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.
