Description
Jamie Oliver’s Apple and Blackberry Crumble is a warm, fruity dessert featuring layers of tender apples and juicy blackberries topped with a golden, buttery crumble. This dessert is baked to perfection, resulting in a comforting treat with contrasting textures and flavors.
Ingredients
For the Filling
- 4 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Braeburn), peeled, cored, and chopped
- 300g fresh or frozen blackberries
- 50g sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional, for warmth)
For the Crumble Topping
- 150g plain flour
- 100g cold butter, diced
- 75g sugar (caster or brown sugar for extra flavor)
- 50g oats (optional, for extra crunch)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped apples, blackberries, sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon. Stir gently to mix, then transfer the fruit mixture to a baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour and butter. Rub the butter into the flour using your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar and oats (if using) to create the crumble topping.
Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit mixture in the baking dish, making sure the fruit is completely covered.
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the fruit is bubbling around the edges.
Allow the crumble to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with custard, cream, or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a truly indulgent dessert.
