Description
Jamie Oliver Creamed leeks is a dish where leeks are sautéed until tender and then combined with cream or a creamy sauce to create a smooth, rich side. This classic British-inspired recipe highlights the leeks’ mild, sweet flavor, making it an excellent accompaniment to various main dishes.
Ingredients
Scale
-
- 4 large leeks, washed and sliced
-
- 1 tablespoon butter
-
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
-
- 1 garlic clove, minced
-
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
-
- 150ml heavy cream (or double cream)
-
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
-
- A pinch of nutmeg (optional, for extra warmth)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Leeks
-
- Wash the leeks thoroughly, as they can often hold grit between the layers. Slice them into thin rounds and set aside.
2. Sauté the Leeks
-
- In a large pan, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced leeks and sauté for 8-10 minutes until they are soft but not browned. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
3. Add Garlic and Seasoning
-
- Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Add a pinch of nutmeg if you like a subtle warmth in your dish.
4. Pour in the Cream
-
- Lower the heat to medium-low and pour in the heavy cream. Stir well to coat the leeks in the creamy sauce. Let it cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, allowing the cream to thicken slightly and the flavors to meld together.
5. Serve
-
- Remove from heat and garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm as a side to your favorite main dish.
