Ingredients
-
- 4 large apples (Granny Smith, Braeburn, or any firm variety)
-
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
-
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
-
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
-
- 1/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries
-
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
-
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
-
- 1/2 cup apple juice or water
-
- Vanilla ice cream or custard (optional, for serving)
Instructions
Preheat the Oven:
Set your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Prepare the Apples:
Core the apples, leaving the bottom intact to hold the filling. Use a spoon or apple corer to create enough space for the stuffing.
Make the Filling:
In a bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins, walnuts, and oats. Mix well.
Stuff the Apples:
Fill each apple cavity with the prepared mixture, packing it tightly.
Add the Liquid:
Place the apples in a baking dish and pour apple juice or water into the dish to prevent sticking and create a light syrup.
Top with Butter:
Dot each apple with a small piece of butter to enhance the flavor and help caramelize the filling.
Bake the Apples:
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the filling is golden.
Serve Warm:
Transfer the baked apples to serving plates and drizzle with the pan juices. Pair with vanilla ice cream or custard for an extra treat.
